Excerpt:

Yellow
Yellow is the hue of contradiction
Of sickness and light,
The sun’s salt, death’s shadow,
Neighbor of white and heat,
Texas rose,
The color of the liver’s river,
Of bile and spring mornings.

Yellow filled the sunny sails of caravels
And fields of new world grain.
The highest in value of the trinity of hues,
Mother of green, sister of orange,
The color of custard, butter
And the yolk of the moon,
It’s in old eyes and butterflies,
Accompanying early daisies and doom.
